Larry O'Connor never thought he would be one to be on the popular social media site Facebook.

"I said I'd never do that," O'Connor said.

After the urging of his oldest son, O'Connor decided to create a page. Now, 18 months later, the Sharon Springs-Wallace County boys' basketball coach is glad he is on social media.

"I probably reach close to a thousand people," he said. "I really enjoy it now."

The Wildcats are back at the Class 1A Division II state basketball tournament this weekend in Gross Memorial Coliseum. Wallace County (22-2) will play Baileyville-B&B (18-7) in the semifinals at 8:15 p.m. today.

Leading up to state, O'Connor posted a message on Facebook thanking his seniors. He posted another message after Wednesday's win over Hutchinson-Central Christian in the first round.

During the season, O'Connor will spread the word on athletic events at the school.

Kyle O'Connor talked his dad into going on Facebook. Kyle O'Connor, who lives in South Bend, Ind., and writes about Notre Dame football, has his own website company. He also is in charge of the school's website.

"I swore I'd never do it," said O'Connor, 50. "But my son, Kyle, said, 'Dad, you need to do it. You reach so many people.' And, you can."
