Norvella I. Elston, 78, Hays, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Hays Medical Center.
She was born March 3, 1935, in Dodge City to Orville "O.J." and Iona (King) Deaver, Sr. She was a 1953 graduate of Fowler High School and a 1955 graduate of Wichita Business School with an associate's degree.
She married Richard "Dick" Elston on Dec. 19, 1954, in Fowler. He preceded her in death Feb. 6, 2012. They moved to Hays in 1957. She was the owner of No-Pest Control Inc. since 1984 and sold Avon for 40 years.
She was a member of North Oak Community Church, the President's Club Honor Society with Avon, and former member of the Ellis County Fair Board.
She volunteered at Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, Holy Family Elementary School, Sternberg Museum of Natural History and North Oak Community Church.
She enjoyed sewing and was a 4-H leader.
Survivors include a daughter, Deana Rupp and husband, Kim, Hays; two grandchildren, Taryn Rupp and Bryson Rupp; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Orville "Jim" Deaver Jr.; and a sister, Juanita Dauchy.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at North Oak Community Church, Hays; inurnment will be at a later date in Fowler Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the church or St. Thomas More Society, in care of the funeral home.
