Peter B. “Pete” Dlabal, 100, Ellsworth, died Sunday, May 1, 2016, at his home.

He was born June 28, 1915, in Wilson to Mary (Wanasek) and John Dlabal. He graduated from Wilson High School and Wichita Business College.

He married Lillian Hochman on April 27, 1949, in Ellsworth. She preceded him in death in 2013. He was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County where he was the general manager of the Ellsworth County Farmers Co-op Union for 24 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II achieving rank of Staff Sergeant and he served overseas in the SW Pacific Area for 2 ½ years.

He was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post 174, Ellsworth Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6485 and Knights of Columbus. He was elected to the Kansas Farmers Service Board for 27 years and the County Commissioner Board for 12 years, and served on many other local and state boards.

Survivors include four daughters, Joan Brown and husband, Dave, Hays, Deborah Dlabal and David Stang, Albuquerque, N.M., Angie Janzen and husband, Kent, Lorraine, and Pam Dlabal and Eric Johnson, Eden Prairie, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Matthew Brown, Jennifer Nicholson, Sarah Patterson, Jessica Brown, and Alexandria, Daniel, and Taylor Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, AJ, Avery, and Nicholas Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Joe, John, Frank, Paul, Luke, and Steve; and two sisters, Mary Kirk and Verna Vodraska.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Ellsworth; private family burial to follow.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, St. Ignatius Catholic Church, or Ellsworth VFW Post No. 6485, in care of the funeral home.
