U.S. Senate candidate John Fleming launched statewide television ads Wednesday in his bid to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. David Vitter.
The 30-second spot, which his campaign said will cost seven figures, is called "tough, tested, trusted."
Fleming is a U.S. representative who represents the state's 4th district in northwest Louisiana.
He is a Republican from Minden.
"John Fleming's a tough, tested and trusted conservative," according to the ad.
It says Fleming overcame adversity growing up, became a family physician and later a small businessman who created 500 jobs.
"And as our congressman ... exposed taxpayer abuses, protected gun rights and took on Obama's corrupt IRS," the ad says. "John Fleming. The conservative's choice for Senate."
Fleming is one of 24 candidates who hope to succeed Republican Vitter, who announced his retirement moments after conceding defeat in his bid for governor last year.
The election is Nov. 8.
A December 10 runoff is scheduled unless any of the candidates gets 50 percent of the vote plus one, which is unlikely.
Fleming's campaign said the ads will air on network and cable stations.
