Special to The Hays Daily News

At 6:29 p.m. Wednesday, the Hays Fire Department, supported by the Hays Police Department and Ellis County EMS, was dispatched to a structure fire at 2704 Hickory. On arrival, firefighters found a fire burning in a detached garage in the alley behind the dwelling.

The fire attack was delayed because of a malfunction of the fire truck's electronic pump controls. After the firefighters reconnected the fire hydrant supply hose to the next fire truck, the fire quickly was controlled by one hose stream. Five fire trucks staffed by 19 firefighters responded.

There were no injuries. The damage was limited to the contents of the garage. A fire investigation conducted by the HPD, assisted by the fire department, determined the cause of the fire was accidental. The specific cause of the fire was not determined.

The last fire crews left the fire scene at 7:58 p.m.
