ST. JOHN — The Plainville High School boys’ golf team is headed to the Class 2A state meet. The Cardinals, led by a third-place 76 for Colton Bobek, won Monday’s 2A regional with a 336. Runner-up WaKeeney-Trego, led by a 79 for Emmitt Owens, also will head to state after shooting a 343.

Plainville’s top four of Bobek, Craig Garvert (86), Gunner Kerns (85) and Jared Copeland (89) all finished in the top 15. Owens and Dion Reetz (81) were sixth and seventh, individually, for Trego. The state meet is May 26 at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.

In the Class 2A regional at Syracuse, Oberlin finished second to qualify for the 2A state meet. Also, Ness City’s Jacob Hoss was the fourth best individual not on a qualifying team and will represent the Eagles in Emporia.

Phillipsburg’s team will head to the Class 3A state meet at Hesston after winning Monday’s 3A regional in Hoisington. Cimarron placed second.
