CIMARRON -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian football team couldn't get much to go its way Friday night while taking a break from Mid-Continent League action.
Monarch freshman quarterback David McFarland, starting in place of injured senior Max Megaffin (ankle), completed five of his first six passes, but the Monarchs couldn't muster much else against 3-2 Cimarron.
The Bluejays' A.J. Cooper scored the game's first four touchdowns. He caught three scoring passes from Nick Ast, and scored on a 51-yard interception return -- one of two first-half picks for McFarland.
Cimarron led 32-0 at halftime, then tacked on a third- and fourth-quarter score to set the final margin.
The Monarchs dropped to 0-5 and suffered their second shutout this season -- along with the season-opening 48-0 loss to Phillipsburg.
Three of the Monarchs' losses are within a touchdown: a 26-21 loss to Ellis (2-3), a 30-22 loss to Smith Center (4-1), and a 12-7 loss to Plainville (1-4) last week.
TMP returns to MCL action this week at 7 p.m. Friday at Oakley (2-3). The Plainsmen are coming off a 76-6 win at Leoti-Wichita County in their Class 2-1A District 7 opener.
