Charles C. McDonald, 87, Hays, died Friday, April 8, 2016, at Willow House, Hays.

He was born June 14, 1928, in Emporia to Charles H. and Caroline (Salem) McDonald.

He married Carol J. Heidel on Jan. 11, 1948, in Council Grove. He worked in the oil field for more than 60 years as a pumper and later a production superintendent. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

He was a member of Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, Hays, Gideons International and Hays Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9076.

He enjoyed handing out Gideonís Testaments, outdoors, animals and nature. He enjoyed caring for the birds and tending to his flowers and rose garden, playing with his grandchildren and leading them on rock and fossil hunts, his friends, wife and family and spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Peggy Flanders and husband, Bill, Fort Davis, Texas, and Susan McDonald, Russell; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Mary Colleen McDonald; and a half-sister, Thelma Kitch.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, Hays; burial in Mount Allen Cemetery, with military honors by Hays VFW Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, Hays, KS 67601, and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church or Gideonís International in care of the funeral home.
