JUNCTION CITY -- The Hays High School boys' and girls' cross country teams finished eighth Saturday at the Junction City Invitational.

The Indian boys scored 189 points in the 12-team field, led by a 20th-place finish for Zachary Hopp. Hopp finished in 17 minutes, 32 seconds. The Indians' second-best finisher was Ethan Shippy (18:05). Also competing on varsity were: Allen Zollinger (43rd, 18:18), Caden Cunningham (46th, 18:23), Dylan Schmitt (52nd, 18:37), and Hunter Olsen (71st, 19:42).

Manhattan took top team honors, scoring 40 points.

On the girls' side, the Indians scored 188 points. Marie Reveles ran 16:49 to finish 25th. Haley George finished in 39th place at 17:15, bunched in with two other Indians. Summer Smith was 42nd in 17:23 and Alyssa Bryant 44th in 17:49. Madison Schmidt (48th, 18:10), Tana Herreman (20th, 19:00) and Lacey Elkins (56th, 19:02) rounded out the HHS varsity.

Hays High is at the Salina Central Invitational on Saturday.
