DODGE CITY -- The Hays Larks picked up their third straight victory in convincing fashion Wednesday in Jayhawk League action. The Larks (14-10 overall, 11-9 Jayhawk) blasted out a season-high 19 hits, including four from Codi Harshman, who finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI on a solo home run in the fourth. Brandon Eckerle, in the leadoff spot, finished 3-for-5, scored a run, and drove one in.
Hays did committ three errors behind a six-inning win for Kurt Wunderlich (2-1), his first decision since a 3-1 win over Dodge City on June 21.
The 13 runs is tied for the second most the Larks have scored all summer as they have not lost to the A's in four tries, defeating Dodge City by at least two runs in each of the meetings.
Joe Huwer, finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and drove in three runs and Rafael Valenzueal connected on a two-run home run in the Larks' nine-run sixth.
Hays, now in third place in the league, takes a break from Jayhawk action with games this weekend against the Colorado Sox at Larks Park. Game time for Saturday's doubleheader is 6 p.m.
Hays Medical Center's Dreiling/Schmidt Cancer Institute, a sponsor for Saturday's games, will be conducting a free skin screening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Larks Park.
