For many states, the hottest month of the year is about to begin. July brings beach weather, lemonade stands and, for some, joyous feelings about the season. However, in some areas of the U.S., summer is an uncomfortably hot season in which many people stay inside, blast their air conditioners and wait for the heat to subside.

WeatherDB, a weather data site that's part of Graphiq, wanted to find out which 10 counties experience the hottest weather. Using NOAA's Global Historical Climatology Network, WeatherDB ranked the 10 hottest counties to live based off of annual weather data collected from weather stations across the U.S. from 1981 to 2010. Counties are ranked by their average temperature, and those with a population of less than 100,000 people were not considered. Ties were broken by a county's average high temperature.

All of these counties have reached record temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit -- McAllen, Texas in Hidalgo County boasts a sweltering record high of 111 degrees. Some counties are located in hot, dry deserts, but most of these sizzling counties are located in tropical, humid climates. Seven counties are located in Florida, making it the hottest state by far. See which counties you may want to avoid until temperatures dip below 100 degrees, or at least escape to the nearest beach.
