GREAT BEND — With three golfers in the top seven, the Hays High School boys’ golf team was second Tuesday in the WAC-scoring Great Bend Invitational.

The Indians carded a 301, seven strokes back of champion Garden City, which took the top two spots individually.

Allen Zollinger paced the Indians with his fourth-place 73, the same score as fifth-place Trae McCrae for the Indians.

Justin McCullick finished seventh with a 76. All four Hays High team scorers — plus a fifth — broke 80 with Josh Norris finishing in 10th place with a 79. Brent Koenigsman also fired a 79 just outside of the top 10. Peyton Kieffer finished with an 81 for the Indians.

After Hays High, Dodge City was third with a 322 and Liberal fourth with a 328. With two WAC scoring meets left, including Friday’s meet at Garden City, Hays High sits 18 strokes back of Garden City in the conference race. Zollinger sits in second individually.
