With a great season comes standout awards.
Members of the Ellis baseball team were rewarded Sunday following their 20-1 season by being named to the Kansas High School Baseball Coaches Class 2-1A All-State team. The Railers completed their season Friday with a runner-up finish in the state championship game in Great Bend.
Senior pitcher Easton Smith, a first-team selection, also was named the 2-1A Pitcher of the Year. Coach Brent Cain was named the classification’s Coach of the Year. Senior short stop Dalton Hensley also was a first-team selection.
Named to the second team were, seniors second baseman Brayden Bittel, outfielder Clayton Feik and utility Brevin LaBarge.
Senior designated hitter Bryce Keithley was named honorable mention.
Smith and Hensley have been selected to play in the Kansas High School All-State game June 7, at Tointon Family Stadium in Manhattan. Cain will be a coach of one of the teams.
