K-State Research and Extension will be holding Preserving the Family with Estate Planning workshops Feb. 19 - 20
Workshops will be Feb. 19 at United Methodist Church in Stockton and Feb. 20 at Colby United Methodist Church, Colby.
Breakout sessions include:
• Estate Planning 101: Asset Protection, Daniel Diederich:
Estate Planning can be an intimidating process to begin regardless of how much you know. This session will help you learn some of the basics including the objectives of estate planning, estate planning methods, how probate works and what it is, and how to protect your assets.
• Long Term Planning: How to Prepare for the Possibility of Long Term Care, Randy Clinkscales:
This session will discuss how to protect your assets and pay for long term care without selling your home or leaving your family without a dime. It will also cover the estate planning documents that are essential to protect yourself and your family.
• Family Communication in Estate Planning, Charlie Griffin:
In today’s complex world, the transition of assets for a business or a farm from one generation to the next is the most vulnerable point in the life of the business…and that family. The successful passing of assets from one generation to the next doesn’t start and end with the estate plan. It requires a healthy and thoughtful approach to family communications and business management.
• Farm Succession: Making Sure it Happens! Gregg Hadley:
Farm succession planning can be a scary topic for some farm and ranch families. This presentation and discussion will help demystify succession planning by discussing critical succession issues and recommending a farm succession process to follow.
