Rena Mae Rathsack, 85, Hays, died Sunday, June 7, 2015, at Hays Medical Center.
She was born April 7, 1930, in Manitowoc County, Wis., to William and Beatrice (LaFave) Rathsack.
She was a retired sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany, Okinawa right after Pearl Harbor and Hawaii.
Survivors include her special friends and caregivers, Terry and Kim Weigel and children, Hays, Craig and Jolene Hamel and children, Jacksonville, Fla., Russ and Dawn Sharp and children, Edmond, Okla., Scott and Christina Hamel and children, Stockton, Kyle and Teri Hamel and children, Gilbert, Ariz., Shayne and Tiffany Hamel, Plant City, Fla.; her senior companion, Arlene Schlyer, Hays; and her first cousins, Joey and Mae Sazama, Wisconsin, and Jimmy and Sylvia Sazama, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert and James Rathsack.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Nicholas of Myra Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Damar, with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, both at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.
There will be a combined rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Hearing Impaired or the Disabled Veterans Association in care of the funeral chapel.
