(MCT) Emprise Bank has hired two experienced commercial bankers in McPherson and plans to eventually have a full-service office there.
The $1.5-billion-asset bank said in a news release Monday that it has hired Chet Lang as McPherson market president and Sandy Ide as commercial banking specialist.
Teri Ginther, Emprise executive vice president, said in an interview Monday that it will have a branch there because of the hiring of Lang and Ide. She said the bank found itself in a situation where it wanted to "seize the opportunity" of hiring experienced bankers and building a physical presence around them.
"We intend to have a branch location there, pending regulatory approvals," Ginther said. "It may be we have to do something in the interim. Those things we are sorting out as we go ... We absolutely intend to offer full-service banking in McPherson with Chet's leadership."
Lang was most recently market president in McPherson with Sunflower Bank, where he worked for 13 years. He has a total of 19 years experience in banking, according to the news release. Ide has seven years of banking experience at Sunflower.
Ginther said this isn't the first time that Emprise has entered a new market by first hiring the people and then establishing a branch. She said the bank did so in El Dorado in 2002.
"We're very happy with the El Dorado experience," Ginther said.
Wichita-based Emprise operates nearly 40 branches in eight Kansas counties.
"We really like the McPherson market, and it fits in our strategy very well," she said.
