DODGE CITY -- Avenging last season's title loss, the Sharon Springs-Wallace County boys' basketball team got a little payback Saturday at United Wireless Arena in Dodge City.

The Wildcats, ranked No. 2 most of the season behind Beloit/St. John's-Tipton, knocked off the defending champion Blujays, 72-61, in the title game this time around.

Luke Schemm, Ivan Montes and Nate Klinge combined to score 46 points for the Wildcats, who capped their season with a 24-2 record. St. John's-Tipton, led by 27 points from Trey Dubbert, also finished 24-2.

Wallace County trailed 37-33 at halftime, but outscored the Blujays 17-13 in the third quarter and 22-11 in the fourth to seal the win. This was the eighth trip to state for the program, but the first state championship. The Wildcats, after not having won a game at state in the previous five tries, have been fourth, second and champions the past three seasons.
