Cheryl Faye Brooks, 71, Hays, died Sunday, June 7, 2015, at Hays Medical Center.
She was born July 11, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Willis and Mildred LaVergne (Higby) Cox. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School and attended the University of Kansas and Fort Hays State University.
She married James Brooks on June 19, 1965, at Webster Lake. She devoted more than 20 years to her work in medical records at St. Anthony Hospital, now Hays Medical Center.
She was a member of St. Michael Episcopal Church, Hays, and P.E.O. Chapter GS.
She enjoyed singing, cross-stitch, crocheting and attending arts and theater events. She was interested in medicine, biological sciences, chemistry, history and Spanish.
Survivors include her husband, Hays; a daughter, Amy Brooks and husband, Brian Lee, Fremont, Calif.; a son, Brian Brooks and wife, Jill, and children Lucy and Olive, Prairie Village; and a brother, Ken Cox and wife, Corliss, and daughter, MacKenzie, Independence, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Episcopal Church, Hays.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Multiple Sclerosis Society in care of the funeral chapel.
