Elaine McClellan, 97, Bloomington, Ill., died Tuesday, March 29, 2016.
She was born Aug. 9, 1918, in Lenora to Albert and Harriet Whisnant. She attended Perry Brown Business College and Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.
She married Paul McClellan on June 4, 1939. He preceded her in death Nov. 27, 1997. They lived many years in Hays. She worked several years in pre-enrollment at Fort Hays State University and also assisted her husband in his business with the L.G. Balfour Jewelry Co. and Taylor Publishing Co.
She was active in the Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs and served as a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church, Hays. She was a member of Chapter GS of P.E.O. and a charter member of Chapter IH. Upon moving to Bloomington, she became a member of Chapter FM and then AW of PEO and Wesley United Methodist Church of Bloomington.
She enjoyed tennis, golf, playing cards, especially bridge, and traveling the United States.
Survivors include a son, Steve McClellan and wife, Debi, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Marcia Nelson and husband, Jim, Bloomington; four grandchildren, Lorinda Nelson-Turgeon, Melinda Bryant and husband, Billie, Jennifer Fukuda and husband, Kenn and Matthew McClellan and wife, Lindsay; and seven great-grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan Turgeon, Tyler Samp and Katie Watt, McKenzie Samp, Matthew O’Hara, Mackenzie McClellan, and Jackie Fukuda.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Westminster Village Community Room, Bloomington.
