In a Facebook post this afternoon, the Manhattan man who claimed to have discovered the offspring of a reproducing Western diamondback rattlesnake recanted his earlier claim.
"I am sorry to report that I made a mistake of claiming the snake as a wild find," said Ryan Forknell. "I made a mistake and I'm sorry. I didn't think it would blow up to be as big of a deal as it was. No the snake is not in my possession anymore and there will be no situation like this to happen again. I apologize to everyone on here for my mistake and hope to be forgiven sometime. I am sincerely sorry for my mistake."
His public admission came moments after he backed away from the claim in an online conversation with The Hays Daily News.
"Alright I'm sorry to say it was a captive snake," he wrote. "I messed up. I didn't think it would be as big of a deal. I'm sorry."
