A traffic stop turned into a drug bust early Sunday on Interstate Highway 70, after a Saline County deputy pulled a vehicle over for exceeding the speed limit by 10 miles an hour, Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said.

He said that when the driver rolled down the window as the deputy approached the car at 7:30 a.m. 2 miles into Saline County from the Ellsworth County line, the deputy detected a heavy marijuana odor.

Kochanowski said the driver had a marijuana grinder he purchased in Denver in his pocket, and a search of the vehicle turned up more drug paraphernalia and 3 pounds of marijuana purchased in Colorado.

Arrested were Patrick Farr, 26, and Forgary Y. Smith, 23, both of Junction City. Both are accused of distributing an illegal drug, possessing drug paraphernalia and not having a tax stamp. Farr faces an additional charge of unlawfully obtaining prescription medication for oxycodone pills found in his pocket.
