{p dir=”ltr”}{span}After a 2-0 start to the season, the Thomas More Prep-Marian volleyball team — ranked third in Class 4A Division II — suffered its first defeats of the young season at the Abilene quadrangular Tuesday.{/span}{p dir=”ltr”}{span}The Monarchs had to wait until their third match of the day to get their third win of the season.{/span}{p dir=”ltr”}{span}TMP-Marian looked primed to make it three wins in a row, taking the first set of the day from Smoky Valley 25-23.{/span}{p dir=”ltr”}{span}The Vikings rebounded, however, and surprised the Monarchs, taking the next two sets and the match with a 25-21 win followed by a 25-22 victory in the third set.{/span}{p dir=”ltr”}{span}The host, Abilene — one of the top teams in Class 4A Division I — only needed two sets to get past Natausha Dreher’s team, winning 25-15 and 25-19.{/span}{p dir=”ltr”}{span}In the final match of the day, the Monarchs took down Concordia 25-21 and 25-19. TMP-Marian ended the day 1-2 and will enter Tuesday’s triangular with Hill City and Phillipsburg with a 3-2 record.{/span}{p dir=”ltr”}{span}Kayla Vitzum led the Monarchs with 20 kills, while Madyson Koerner set up the hitters with 14 assists. Bailey Hageman handled most of the action in the back row with 40 digs.{/span}
