Salina South proved to be too much for the Hays High softball team in a pair of games Friday in Salina.

The Cougars took the first game 7-4 before completing the sweep with a 10-2 win in game two.

All of Salina South's runs in the opener came in a big second inning. The Indians trailed 7-0 when their bats got going in the sixth. Jaysa Wichers plated two runs, while Kylie Brown and Madison Prough each drove in one in the inning to bring the Indians within three, but the visitors came no closer.

Kaitlyn Brown took the loss in the circle for the Indians, who were out-hit 11-6.

The Indians led briefly in the second game before another offensive outburst allowed the Cougars to complete the sweep.

Hays High trailed by one to start the fourth, but Madison Prough and Mackenzie Fagan drove in runs to give Hays High a 2-1 lead.

Salina South quickly regained the lead with three runs in the bottom half before adding four more in the sixth.

The Cougars finished with 13 hits to Hays High's seven. The Indians also committed four errors.

Senior Kylie Brown was the only Indian with two hits in the second game.
