MANHATTAN – The Louisburg FFA chapter and Clay Center FFA were each awarded first place, Marysville FFA placed second, Girard FFA placed third and Mission Valley FFA placed fourth, and a member of the South Central FFA chapter earned first place, Labette County FFA team members were recognized for placing first, and Buhler FFA team members were recognized for placing first in the Career Development Event (CDE) Sweepstakes at the 88th annual Kansas FFA State Convention June 1-3, on the Kansas State University campus.
The Louisburg FFA took top honors in three CDEs – Dairy Foods, Floriculture and Poultry – and placed in several others.
These victories propelled Louisburg to place first in the Sweepstakes contest. Labette County FFA earned second and Buhler FFA was awarded third place.
Team members from the Clay Center FFA chapter include: Katelyn Bohnenblust, Haley Pederson, Taylor Mall, Michaela Musselman, Andrea Chestnut and Courtney Sherbert. Advisors include Jay Bohnenblust and Mike Beying.
As the state Parliamentary Procedure CDE winner, Clay Center has the opportunity to represent Kansas at the 2016 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. This award is sponsored by the CHS Foundation.
After being announced as the winner, Dale presented the FFA Creed to members and guests in attendance at the opening session of the Kansas FFA Convention.
Members in grades 7 through 9 recite the five-paragraph FFA Creed from memory and answer questions about its meaning. The event boosts confidence and develops the members’ ability to communicate in a professional and effective manner.
Alex Segarra from the Hill City FFA chapter placed second in the Creed Public Speaking CDE, while, Riley Krehbiel of Kingman FFA placed third, and Hannah Beerbower of Uniontown FFA placed fourth.
Dale will represent Kansas at the 2016 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. The Creed Public Speaking award is sponsored by Kansas FFA Alumni.
In the Ritual Demonstration CDE, FFA members must demonstrate outstanding delivery and presentation skills for the FFA Opening Ceremony.
The Labette County FFA chapter was awarded first place in the Ritual Demonstration CDE. Buhler FFA placed second, Girard FFA received third and Sabetha FFA placed fourth.
As state winner, the Labette County FFA chapter has the opportunity to represent Kansas in the Ritual CDE at the 2016 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Leadership Quiz Bowl gives members an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of FFA and its foundation. The team answering the most questions correctly, in front of a live audience, is determined as the winner.
Buhler FFA faced off against Girard FFA in the live contest in McCain Auditorium. Buhler won, and Girard placed second. Earlier in the day, Norton FFA came in third and Jayhawk Linn FFA placed fourth.
Competing on the winning Buhler FFA quiz bowl team were: Joshua Turner, Jacob Grinstead, Faith Finney, Katie Arpin, Winters Rees and Ambrosia Carlton.
