Record cold lingered in the North on Monday, with International Falls, Minn., reaching a low never before reported for the day.

Some snow and freezing rain developed in the mid-Mississippi and Ohio valleys.

Thunderstorms with downpours and frequent lightning blew through eastern Texas.

It was clear and warm in the West, though the Northwest was not quite as pleasant, with cooler air, a few clouds and some precipitation.

Temperatures ranged from minus 38 degrees at International Falls to 86 degrees at Pecos, Texas.
