Catholics in the Heartland Parishes will celebrate Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. May 22 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a Mass followed by an outdoor procession of the Blessed Sacrament. Father Frank Grinko will be the main celebrant.
Corpus Christi, which is Latin for body of Christ, is a traditional Christian feast day honoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. It is celebrated the Thursday after Trinity Sunday on the Catholic calendar to commemorate that it was a Thursday in which Jesus first gave his body and blood at the Last Supper with his apostles.
The fourth-degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard and lead the procession following Mass. In the event of inclement weather, there will be a holy hour of exposition of the Blessed Sacrament instead of the procession.
