LIBERAL -- The Hays Larks dropped their third straight contest, 3-2 in 10 innings, on the road Tuesday night against Liberal. Hays finished the season series 4-4 against the Bee Jays and remain in fourth place in the Jayhawk League at 12-13 in the conference, 19-14 overall. Liberal is 23-16, 15-13 in the Jayhawk League, good for third place.

Andrew Heck delivered another good outing, allowing two runs on nine hits against six strikeouts and no walks in eight innings. Heck is 4-0 with a 1.89 earned-run average in a team-best 521βΡ3 innings this summer. He has walked just 10 batters. Heck, though, took a no-decision when Liberal scored a run in the bottom of the 10th against Chase Barrera (1-1) on an error by third baseman Josh Garcia and a single.

Hays dropped to 3-6 in one-run games this season.

The Larks took a 2-0 lead after three innings with single runs in the second and third on a RBi fielder's choice from Ben Turner and a RBI single from Jason Morriss. Liberal scored in the sixth and ninth. Brandon Eckerle, who leads Hays with a.440 average and has hit safely in all but one game he has played in, went 3-for-5 with a run scored.
