An arrest has been made in connection with the Sept. 20 report of a sexual assault on the Fort Hays State University campus, Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees said. The report was made to police Sept. 25.
The suspect in the case was identified as Fernando I. Cantero, 20, an international student from Paraguay, Drees said in a statement. He was arrested by FHUS police Tuesday.
Cantero made his first appearance in Ellis County District Court this morning on a probably cause affidavit alleging rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated burglary.
He remains in jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.
The incident remains under investigation by FHSU police, the Hays Police Department, Ellis County Sheriff’s office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
