The jury in the trial of a Fort Hays State University international student charged with sexually assaulting a college freshman entered deliberations Friday morning at approximately 11 a.m.
Now, the case against Fernando Cantero, a student from Paraguay who was on a student visa to attended college at FHSU, rests in the hands of the 12-person jury made up of seven women and five men.
Cantero is charged with rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated burglary for alleged events that took place during the early morning hours of Sept. 20, 2015, on the fifth floor of McMindes Hall.
Cantero has pleaded not guilty to all three charges and has claimed the sex was consensual.
