Pius Henry Ziegler, 91, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2015, in Arvada, Colo.

He was born July 17, 1924, in Collyer to Pete and Leokadia (Waldman) Ziegler. He attended St. Michael Grade School, was a 1942 graduate of Collyer High School and attended Brown Mackie Business School in Wichita.

He married Ilona Johnson on Aug. 8, 1949. He was a rural letter carrier for 36 years with a record of being so prompt that his patrons could set their clocks by his delivery at their mail boxes. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during World War II from 1944 to 1946, and served as a Seaman First Class.

He was an active member in the community. He was adjutant of Thomas Pratt Tidball American Legion in Collyer, Knights of Columbus, Rural Mail Carriers Association and helped to establish the Avenue of Flags in both Collyer cemeteries.

Survivors include his wife, Ilona Ziegler; a son, Jeffry Ziegler and wife, Teresa; three daughters, Rebecca Ziegler, Debbie (Ziegler) Welsh and husband, Randy, and Nancy (Ziegler) Dixon and husband, Todd; a brother, Bob Ziegler and wife, Rosie; a sister, Elfrieda (Ziegler) Heimerman; a sister-in-law, Ethel Ziegler; nine grandchildren, Justin Wenrich and wife, Michelle, Joshua Goodman and wife, Avalina, David Goodman and wife, Suzanne, Sarah Domareck and husband, Brian, Andrew Ziegler, and Jessica Lamacraft and husband, Craig, and Kevin, Brenden and Emiline Dixon; and 10 great-grandchildren, Jada and Maddelyn Goodman; Abigail and Jordana Goodman, Damian, Vaiden, Audrich and Syler Wenrich; and Olivia Domareck.

The family intends to have a service to celebrate his life in Collyer in July 2016.
