Patricia Jean McKinley, 84, died Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Rolling Hills Health and Rehab.

She was born Oct. 1, 1931, in Hays to Joseph and Mathilda (Niernberger) Wasinger. She was a 1949 graduate of Girls Catholic High School.

She married Jay Schlyer on Oct. 27, 1949, in Hays. She later married Carl McKinley on May 20, 1977. He preceded her in death. She enjoyed working for The Hays Daily News. She later moved to Topeka in 1972 and worked for Kansas Association for Mental Health.

She was a member of the Women’s Club of Topeka and the Red Hat Society.

She was an avid bridge player.

Survivors include her four children, Christiane Hayden, Brad Schlyer, Amy Schlyer, and Benjy Schlyer; a daughter-in-law, Pat Schlyer; two grandchildren, Tana (Brad) Griffith and Tierney (DeAndre) Gillis; three great-grandchildren; and four siblings.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dan Schlyer; and five siblings.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka; inurnment will take place at a later date in Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka.

Family will receive friends an hour prior to the service Wednesday at the chapel.
