Evelyn (Walters) Joy, 86, Portland, Ore., died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015.

She was born March 2, 1929, in Hays to Joseph J. and Mary A. (Schukman) Walters. She was a 1947 graduate of Girls Catholic High School.

She married Reuben “Dale” Joy on Jan. 18, 1950, in Hays. He preceded her in death July 1, 1976.

They moved to Portland in 1954. She was a homemaker raising six sons, and in the late 1970s worked for the Catholic Archdiocese of Portland with the Deaf and Disabilities Ministries of Portland.

She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Portland.

Survivors include six sons, Roger, Corvallis, Mont., Reuben “Tom”, Simi Valley, Calif., Mike, Jeff and Kevin, all of the Portland area, and Curtis, Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Wally Walters, Palm City, Fla.; and a sister, Charlene Weigel, Salina.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Joseph J. Walters; and seven sisters, Florence Schmidt, Lucille Urban, Mildred Harman, Ruth Harman, Vernetta “Betty” Schmeidler, Margaret “Marge” Moore and Clara Mae Walters.

Services were Jan. 6 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Portland; burial in Williamette National Cemetery.
