Clem A.J. Zerr, 92, Oakley, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Logan County Hospital, Oakley.

He was born Oct. 5, 1921, on the family farm in Sheridan County to Joseph and Agatha (Heier) Zerr.

He was a World War II veteran, serving from 1942 to 1946, mostly in the Aleutian Islands.

He married Pauline Pfeifer on May 20, 1947, in St. Peter. They farmed and raised cattle on their farm south of Grinnell, moving to Oakley in retirement in 2009.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley, Grinnell VFW, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. He was an enthusiastic horseshoe pitcher and won many trophies throughout western Kansas and eastern Colorado.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Donald Zerr and Leroy Zerr, both of Grinnell, and Duane Zerr and wife, Sandy, Pittsburg; five daughters, Geraldine Zerr, Hays, Marietta Plummer and husband, Tom, Oakley, Ruth Mller and husband, Donnie, Dighton, Ella Dankenbring, Marysville, and Elaine Jones and husband, Dale, Council Grove; a brother, Steve Zerr and wife, Louella, Hoxie; three sisters, Margaret Richmeier and husband, Ben, Thornton, Colo., Helen Normandin and husband, Gene, Damar, and Katherine Delzeit, Oakley; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Duane John Zerr and David Zerr; a grandson, Marvin Miller; and three brothers, Ted Zerr, Kasper Zerr and Melchoir Zerr.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley; burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Grinnell.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley.

A vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
