Glenn "Spot" Honas, 82, Ellis, died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney.

He was born July 6, 1931, in Ransom to Edward Sr. and Agnes (Steckline) Honas.

He married Bertha Gaschler on Jan. 4, 1952, in Ellis. She preceded him in death Feb. 8, 1972. He worked in construction, oilfields and retired as a farmhand from Kohl Farms. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis Knights of Columbus and Ellis Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, watching KU basketball and March Madness every year.

Survivors include two brothers, Art Honas and wife, Shirley, and Oscar Honas and wife, Betty, all of Ellis; a sister, Delores Schmeidler, Hays; a grandson, Travis Honas, San Diego; three granddaughters, Sara Evans and husband, Shawn, and Samantha Schwein and husband, Toby, all of Russell, and Amber Robinson and husband, Casey, Alaska; and eight great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Cade, Bailey, Cael and Caleigh Evans, Jakob and Connor Schwein, all of Russell, and Landon Robinson, Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Douglas L. Honas; eight brothers, Clarence, Frank, Eddie, Joe, Rudolph, Ernest and infants Edward and John; and a sister, Irene Dinkel.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis; burial in the church cemetery with military honors by Ellis VFW.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, both at the church.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary service, both at the church.
