WaKEENEY — The WaKeeney City Council voted unanimously and with no public discussion not to pay the attorney fees for Police Chief Terry Eberle in a special meeting Monday night.

After convening in public at 6 p.m. to a standing-room-only crowd, the council voted to meet in executive session for client-attorney privilege for 45 minutes with the city attorney, city counsel and city clerk present.

After approximately 30 minutes, Paul Oller, the attorney who had represented Eberle on Monday morning in a hearing to revoke his bond for violation of a no-contact order, was called into the session.

After reconvening in public, the council, by voice, voted to not pay Eberle’s attorney fees, and a motion to adjourn was made immediately.

Eberle was placed on paid leave following his arrest Wednesday.
