Farm bill busts

It is unfortunate the House farm bill currently includes a provision that will leave countless animals defenseless and left to be mistreated.

The "King Amendment," authored by Iowa Republican Steve King, will be doing just that if no immediate action is taken.

The threatening provision could negate hundreds of state animal protection laws that would otherwise provide a defense for dogs in puppy mills, farm animals due for slaughter, and even sharks used for their fins.

As a member of the conference committee to decide the final farm bill, I implore Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., to work with his colleagues to eliminate this dangerous part of the bill.
