There are many candidates for public office nationwide who support the “Big Lie” claim of election fraud in 2020 including several in Kansas. A prominent candidate fitting that description is Derek Schmidt. Derek Schmidt added his name to the 2020 frivolous lawsuit filed by the Texas Attorney General challenging the election. Mr. Schmidt didn’t just add his personal name, he signed on as the attorney general of Kansas. This was a lawsuit maintained after over 50 other similar lawsuits lost in court. Mr Schmidt claims he was just raising a constitutional question, but he must not have read the petition because it alleges fraud. Mr. Schmidt has never withdrawn his support for this lie or apologized for his actions. Mr. Schmidt in his campaign says that we are a turning point in our country. We indeed are at a turning point. Will our democratic republic even survive. It will not survive with election deniers in office who mislead their supporters undermining faith in the election process. No matter where he stands on any other issues, he has utterly failed a requirement to serve, the courage and strength to defend one of the basic principles on which we are founded, faith in our elections. Not only has he failed to make the defense, he participated in the attack with the scurrilous lawsuit. If the people who misled their own supporters are elected to office, it will happen again. Don’t vote for Derek Schmidt.
In the October 12th forum between Rep. Barb Wasinger and challenger Ed Hammond, Rep. Wasinger advocated for a constitutional amendment on the November ballot that would give the Legislature the authority to revoke or suspend regulations adopted by state agencies. She said this amendment is meant to keep unelected bureaucrats from creating unnecessary or overreaching regulations. However, this amendment is an unnecessary power grab by the Legislature.
When I’m asked how to best describe State Representative Barb Wasinger one word comes immediately to mind. Tenacious! From the day Barb Wasinger set foot in the statehouse it was clear she was a leader.

The competition, offered as part of the annual Kansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association conference, was held this fall in Manhattan, Kansas.

DEAR DR. ROACH: I disagree with your recent column about the glucosamine/ chondroitin supplements. I have arthritis in my lower back. I am taking this supplement each day, and my lower back pain is completely gone. I can now bend down from the waist. I was very skeptical about this or any other supplement and was surprised when it worked. Give it another look. -- R.G.
