Dear Doctor Roach: I’m a 91-year-old male who has had excellent health all of my life. I’m very active for my age, as I play golf twice a week, workout at the local gym once or twice a week and walk about 1/2 mile once to twice a week, including a rather steep grade.
Today is Sunday, March 20, the 79th day of 2022. There are 286 days left in the year.

Q: I gained about 25 pounds during the pandemic and it’s affecting my health, but when I went to my doctor for an annual checkup (finally), she didn’t say a word about what to do to lose weight -- so I didn’t either. Dear Dr. Roach: I have suffered from asthma and nasal polyps for more than 20 years. The asthma is controlled, and I mention it only because it might have some connection with my polyps. The polyps get so bad that both sides of my nose are blocked, and I have to breathe through my mouth. It is miserable. I have had three surgeries to remove polyps over the past 20 or so years, which involves a trip to the hospital and anesthesia. They always grow back. My current ENT now removes them in an office procedure. While not fun, it gets the job done, and it is preferable to not being able to breathe through my nose. Unfortunately, they grow back within a year.
Lately my teenager has been fascinated by medical dramas. Although my “doctor self ” is usually rolling my eyes throughout the program, it’s often a good conversation starter.
A youth rally aimed at challenging young people to apply the Gospel of Christ to their own lives will be held in Hays on Saturday, March 26. “”Declare Youth” will take place from 10 a.m.
