USD489 FY 25 Budget expected to exceed RNTR

Assistant Superintendent Chris Hipp informed the USD489 Board of Education (BOE) on July 15, 2024 that the District’s Fiscal Year 2025 (FY 25) Budget is expected to exceed the revenue neutral tax rate (RNTR) He explained that if the dollar amount of the mill levy goes up over the previous year, the 2021 State RNTR statute requires additional steps for approval. According to Assistant Superintendent Hipp, several factors contribute to a mill levy going up. However, he stated that the reductions in State money are the main reason the USD489 FY 25 Budget will exceed the RNTR.

Daily Sick-Absence Notifications and GPS HS cell phone ban in works for USD489

The USD489 Board of Education (BOE) performed its “first read” of the 2024-2025 Student Handbooks during the BOE’s July 15, 2024 meeting. The updated handbook drafts were not made available to the public. However as Superintendent Ron Wilson presented the revisions, he stated that few changes had been made, with the notable exception that parents will have call every day to notify the District of student sick-absences.

Hays Medical Center Nurse Receives International Award

The International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) honored Jessica Albers, MFS, BSN, RN, SANE-A, SANE-P. with the Virginia A. Lynch Pioneer Award in Forensic Nursing, the Association’s highest award, at a presentation held at Hays Medical Center (HaysMed) in Hays, Kansas on Friday, June 28, 2024. Albers is Sexual Assault/Forensic Nurse Examiner at Hays Medical Center. The award is named for Virginia Lynch, known globally as the “mother of forensic nursing.”
