On July 1, 2024 Ellis City Council authorized Police Chief Avery Smith to begin the hiring process to fill the vacancy resulting from Officer Colin Pritchett’s resignation from the Ellis Police Department. Officer Pritchett has subsequently accepted a position with the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department. Chief Smith reminded the Council a ballistic vest and carrier was purchased for Officer Pritchett in Apr. 2024. He relayed that the County was willing to purchase these items from the City. Council unanimously approved the sale of Officer Pritchett’s ballistic vest and carrier to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Department for $1,379.
Following discussion during the July 1, 2024 Ellis City Council meeting, Mr. Justin Wichert’s Application for Permit to Drill a Private Water Well at 406 East 14th Street was approved 4-1. Mr. Wichert previously applied in 2022, but the driller did not go deep enough to find water.
