Brittney Squire, the Convention and Visitors Bureau’s (CVB’s) Marketing Manager, kicked off the City’s July 1st Press Briefing with a reminder that Hays is fortunate to have two Farmer’s Markets this summer with the Downtown Market open Saturdays, 7:30 – 11 a.m. at the Downtown Pavillion and the Hays Fresh Produce Market open Wednesdays, 5-7 p.m. and Saturdays 7:30—11 a.m. in Bomgaars parking lot.

On a hot summer day, there is nothing better than a cool drink of clean water to quench one’s thirst. For cattle out on pasture, their need for clean, accessible water is important for good health, said the experts from Kansas State University’s Beef Cattle Institute on a recent Cattle Chat podcast.

July 6 ECHS hosts two free screenings of Nicodemus documentary

At 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on July 6, 2024, the Ellis County Historical Society (ECHS) will host free showings of “The Ellis County Trail to Nicodemus,” a documentary premiering now on Smoky Hills PBS television. The film follows the remarkable story of Emma Johson-Williams and her family from central Kentucky to Kansas in 1987 and chronicles their quest for freedom and a new life, culminating in the birth of Emma’s child-the first baby born in the all-black town of Nicodemus.
