Property tax increases for 2026

How much will Ellis County property taxes increase next year? That’s the big question following the July 8, 2025 Ellis County Commission Meeting which included a discussion of raising the 2026 mill levy an additional one to two mills over Budget in a “proactive” move. No decisions were made; however, by statute the Commission must decide at next week’s meeting on exceeding the Revenue Neutral Rate (RNR).

County PW Re-Organization approved – hiring process begins for Project Manager, Heavy Equipment Operator & Mechanic

On July 1, 2025 Ellis County Commissioners unanimously approved an overall restructuring of the Public Works (PW) Department with aim to more efficiently track more efficiently track road maintenance and road issues, plan for future projects, and better serve the public and County employees. The County has begun the hiring process to fill three positions, the newly created PW Project Manager position as well as the existing/vacant positions for a Heavy Equipment Operator I (HEO1) and Mechanic.

Schmidt Foundation Invests $500,000 to Support Fort Hays Tech | North Central's New Construction Innovation Center

Fort Hays Tech | North Central is proud to announce a transformative $500,000 investment from the Schmidt Foundation in support of the college’s new Construction Innovation Center, scheduled to open in Spring 2026. This generous contribution will help fund the construction of the nearly 30,000-square-foot facility, designed to expand access to high demand career training in construction technology, electrical technology, plumbing/heating/AC, and commercial driving (CDL).
