Dear Readers, I knew it was that time of year before the National Weather Service issued freeze and frost warnings for a third of the country, including most of Kansas. So I braced for it to the extent that I closed my window and made sure the thermostat was set to kick on if the house temperature dropped below 68 degrees. The heater did its job and I slept, quilted cozy warm. When I woke to a yard blanketed white, I wasn’t surprised. But because I also knew I was unprepared for Winter weather, shivers unrelated to cold ran down my spine and alarms went off in my head.

Hays organizations receive 2023 Leadership Transformation Grants from the Kansas Leadership Center

The Kansas Leadership Center (KLC) has selected 87 organizations across Kansas – two from Hays – as 2023 Leadership Transformation Grant partners. The grants will help the partner organizations create a culture that embraces change, tackles problems and seizes opportunities.

The Heartland Senate Fund

On Monday, October 17th, the campaigns for Democratic nominees for U.S. Senate Mark Holland (Kansas), Tom McDermott (Indiana), and Brian Bengs (South Dakota) have joined together to create the Heartland Senate Fund, a fundraising venture with the intention of working to make the heartland competitive for Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate.

Davids Hosts U.S. Labor Secretary Walsh, Highlights Supply Chain and Workforce Solutions at JCCC

Today, Representative Sharice Davids hosted U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Secretary Marty Walsh for a visit to Johnson County Community College’s (JCCC) Commercials Driver’s License (CDL) training program. Davids, who previously introduced legislation to support female truck drivers alongside Senator Jerry Moran, and Walsh spoke with students and faculty on how the federal government can address supply chain challenges and workforce needs, including in the trucking industry. The DOL helps fund certain JCCC CDL students through Workforce Partnership.
