Continuing the tradition created by President Edward Hammond more than three decades ago, Fort Hays State University President Tisa Mason will be on the road next week with reporters and editors in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.

A recent K-State news service announcement offered information on talking with your loved ones about end of life decisions. It’s the conversation no one wants to talk about. However, this is so important if you or a loved one would ever become incapacitated, permanently or temporarily, to know what that person would want. It is difficult to make decisions when you are under stress or grieving so having those conversations before hand can help relieve some of that stress.

I was having a conversation with a friend this week and they mentioned that they were vacuuming cobwebs out of their house only to have them appear again two days later. I told her to just get used to it because it was only going to get worse over the next several weeks.

On September 19, 2022, at 9:55pm, the Hays Police Department Communication Center received a report of an unresponsive male inside a house in the 200 blk of West 6th Street, Hays, Kansas 67601. The Hays Police Department and Ellis County Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene. Officers arrived on scene and found a 54 year old male lying inside a residence. The man was deceased and appeared to have been beaten. The Ellis County Coroner’s Office was notified and also responded to the scene.

Ellis High School recognized their 2022 Homecoming royalty and announced their King and Queen at Friday night’s football game. Candidates included William Crawford and Carson North, with Maverick Gnad winning King.

Last Wednesday, a spontaneous fire started outside of Wolf Furniture Galleries. While flames formed, emergency responders were quick to contain the fire, resulting in minimal damage to the building’s exterior.
