Asphalt Milling Project

The Ellis County Public Works Road & Bridge Division is announcing that an asphalt milling project will take place in the 500 block of Ellis Avenue. The road will be closed from South County Line to Grants Villa Road. The project will begin at 8:30 am on Wednesday, September 21st and will reopen when the project is completed. Motorists traveling in the affected area should use alternate routes of travel until the project is complete. The road will be closed to through traffic for the safety of staff and the traveling public.

Kansas State Fair Wrap Up

I hope you had a chance to check out the Kansas State Fair this past week! Mostly, I hope you moved off the midway and away from the concerts to check out the incredible 4-H and Open Class exhibits. I delivered over 70 4-H entries for our county and that doesn’t include the 4-H members who participated in the 4-H Dog Show, Communication Presentations, Judging Contests, Fashion Revue, or Livestock contests! Centennial Hall is a busy place on the day of check in as agents from all 105 counties deliver entries for evaluation by a judge.

Annual Tiger Auction and Dinner Raises Over $778,500, A New Event Record

The 13th annual Tiger Auction and Dinner held in August of 2022 was a tremendous success with $778,501 raised for FHSU Athletics, the most in the history of the event. The previous high for a Tiger Auction and Dinner was $410,842, which occurred in 2021. The event also had a record 779 tickets sold this year Item #40, which focused on the proposed Bickle-Schmidt Athletic Complex, raised $615,000. The new 20,000 square foot facility, which is estimated at $9 million, will not only benefit Tiger Athletics from a functional standpoint, but also serve as a tremendous recruiting tool for future athletes at Fort Hays State University.

Wonder Women League hosts groundbreaking for new security equipment at ARC Park

Thursday afternoon, the Wonder Women League broke ground at the Arc Park to celebrate the upcoming installation of cameras and floodlights to help reduce vandalism of the park equipment. The Wonder Women League is a non-profit under the umbrella of the United Way of Ellis County, made up of over 140 members since the organization was created in 2018.
