Hays Symphony “American Tapestry” concert features soprano Ivalah Allen

Reexperience a bustling era of music inspired by post-WWII American optimism. The Hays Symphonywillbepresenting its first Masterworks Concert, American Tapestry, on October 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Beach/ Schmidt Performing Arts Center. The ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Brian Buckstead, Assistant Professor of Violin and Viola at FHSU.

The office investigating Kansas foster care complaints says its workload is ‘not sustainable’

A young state agency created to make sure the state looks after the children put in its care has 69 open investigations manned by a staff of five people. In one of the just seven cases that the Division of the Child Advocate has closed, it concluded that state officials met with a child too little and tried to move them to a new home weeks after major brain surgery.

HaysMed Receives ACC Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI Reaccreditation

The American College of Cardiology has recognized HaysMed for its demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients with chest pain. HaysMed was awarded Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI in August based on rigorous onsite evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

Extreme heat, drought in Kansas causes officials to find solutions for landowners

Last week, the City of Hays, KSU Big Creek Middle Smoky Hill Watersheds and Ellis County Master Gardeners went to work building 55 gallon rain barrels to help provide a solution to the extreme drought in Kansas. The barrels are available with priority to Hays Residents, but accessible for those in surrounding communities. Barrels will be $35 built and ready to install. Checks should be made payable to Ellsworth County Conservation District. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month!

Purple Light Nights October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Options Domestic & Sexual Violence Services is bringing awareness to our communities through several awareness and educational events. We invite community members to take action, prevent domestic violence, and support survivors. Options is excited to be hosting three tree lighting ceremonies this year to kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month. These tree lightings will be held across Options’ 18-county service area: · Monday, October 3rd in Hill City at East City Park at 7 pm · Tuesday, October 4th in Hays at Union Pacific Park at 7 pm · Wednesday, October 5th in Colby at Fike Park at 7 pm Options invites the community to show their support for survivors at these ceremonies.

FHSU Athletics Welcomes Seven Hall of Fame Inductees on September 24

Fort Hays State Athletics will welcome seven new members into the Tiger Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 24, 2022. The inductees going into the Hall of Fame this year include Jon Nelson (Track & Field/Cross Country, 1970-74), Fred Campbell (Men’s Basketball, 1984-86), Steve Broxterman (Track & Field, 1986-88), Greg Yost (Football, 1987-90), Damian Evans (Men’s Basketball, 1990-92), Derek Pomeroy (Baseball, 1992-93), and Shelby White (Women’s Golf, 2004-07).
