Heart of a Tiger: Celebrating our exceptional faculty at Fall Convocation

Just prior to the beginning of each academic year, Fort Hays State University hosts a convocation. We use this annual gathering to look back on our achievements, welcome new faculty and staff, discuss important campus-wide projects and programs, and provide an overview of the state of the university. We also close the ceremony with what I think is the most inspiring thing we do to kick off the new academic year - we honor outstanding faculty.

Visit the Healing Sanctuary, an art exhibit by Kammy Downs

AccordingtotheFortHaysStateDepartment of Art and Design, displays were spread out among a number of buildings and never had a formal gallery for years. In 1969, John C. Thorns, Jr. first presented his vision to the college administration for a regional art museum with educational laboratories to house the Department of Art. With the completion of Rarick Hall in the spring of 1981, Thorns’ vision was realized.

Highest rank awarded to South Bend boy scout

Dalton McCarty was recently awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts. For his eagle project, he relocated and restored a walking rosary path at St. Jude Catholic Church, his home parish. He was also recently awarded the Vigil Honor, the highest rank in scouting’s Order of the Arrow. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 173 in South Bend, Indiana. Dalton is the son of Trent and Christy McCarty, South Bend. He is the grandson of Maribeth and the late Wayne McCarty, Hays, and Ray and Judy Marcotte, Plainville.
