Better Than it Looks

My 1976 Monte Carlo was a lead sled. The paint was flaking off behind the doors. To shut the driver’s side door, you had to lift it as you swung it because it sagged from the weight. The vinyl top hadn’t completely rotted off, but it was blistered pretty bad. Those vanity plates with “RBaker” on them drew your eye. It looked rough but that car could run. That Monte was better than it looked. I think the market is better than it looks too.

Celebrating Forty-Eight Years

Fort Hays State University is celebrating its 48th year as the sponsor of the Senior Companion Program. The anniversary was marked during the annual volunteer recognition event, held on July 21st, in the Memorial Union Ballroom, on the Fort Hays State University campus. During the event, volunteers from thirteen counties in western Kansas were honored for their dedicated care and service to others. Each volunteer was acknowledged in the event program, were provided a small gift of appreciation and enjoyed entertainment by local musician, Tim Schumacher.

HaysMed Athletic Sports Injury Clinic Begins Seeing Patients August 8

HAYS, Kansas – The HaysMed Athletic Sports Injury Walk-In Clinic will once again be seeing patients starting August 8. Athletes who get hurt during the week have several options to seek immediate care. The sports injury walk-in clinic is open Monday and Thursdays from 8:00 am to 9:00 am at the Hays Orthopedic Clinic, 2500 Canterbury Drive. This year there are also expanded time for same or next day appointments.

ACCESS announces new rates

ACCESS Public Transportation is announcing a rate increase beginning September 1, 2022. All city rides will be $3.00 per one way ride and all county rides will be $5.00 per one way ride. Tickets purchased before this date can still be used with the rider paying the difference.

World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month 2022

August 1st signifies the kickoff for World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7) as well as August as National Breastfeeding Month. Each year the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) requests a Congressional Proclamation to declare August as National Breastfeeding Month in the United States. In 2021, the USBC piloted a toolkit that individuals could use to urge their governor to proclaim August as “Breastfeeding Month” in their state or territory. Kansas has joined the list!
