Fort Hays State University has been recognized for its investment in programs that improve the education experience of its military-connected student community, earning the 2022-23 Military Friendly School designation from militaryfriendly.com. FHSU earned “Silver” recognition in this year’s survey, a significant advancement over last year’s survey placement on the 2021-22 list of 747 Military Friendly Schools.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Republican lawmakers in Kansas are advancing a measure to prevent the governor from entering into legal agreements that change state election practices without getting prior approval from the GOP-controlled Legislature or its top leaders.

The focus was numbers, meeting the needs of students without placing unrealistic expectations on educators. USD 489 Board of Education members gathered Monday evening for a regularly scheduled meeting, discussing plans for the 2022-23 school year.

As Emporia State University announced their 2022 Class of Kansas Master Teachers, local elementary school teacher Gina Johnson was recognized as one of seven across the state. Fourth and fifth grade educator at O’Loughlin Elementary, Johnson was nominated for the award by her peers who recognized the dedication she shows to teaching the youth of Hays.

Seven Hays High Students recently performed in the 2021-22 Kansas Music Educators Association All-State Treble Choir and Mixed Choir Concert at Century II Convention Hall in Wichita. The event was a big milestone for Hays High, as they have not had a selection for four years.
