2025 Ellis County Commission Scholarship Recipients

Ellis County Commissioners unanimously approved and congratulated 15 local High School graduating-seniors on April 15 as the recipients of the 2025 Ellis County Commission Scholarships. Five $1000 and ten $500 scholarships will be presented by Commissioners (or representatives of the County Commission) during the Awards Nights scheduled in the upcoming weeks at Ellis, Hays, Thomas More Prep-Marian and Victoria High Schools.

$3.8M Direct Business Impact from 2024 WWF, FHSU Spring Commencement and Sports Complex Tournaments

During the Apr. 2, 2025, Joint Meeting of the Hays City Commission and Hays Recreation Commission (HRC) Board, Assistant City Manager Jarrod Kuckelman provided the direct business economic impact in 2024 due to the Wild West Fest (WWF), Fort Hays State University (FHSU) Spring Commencement and Sports Complex Tournament events totaling $2,784,012.

FEMA defunds BRIC with Hays & Russell poised to submit $50M R9 grant application

According to Hays City Manager Toby Dougherty, the formal confirmation was received on Friday, April 4, 2025, that Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) Grant Program, just as the grant application was ready to be submitted from for $50M in funding for the R9 Pipeline and Wellfield Project. "This was extremely disappointing as Hays had received a Direct Technical Assistance grant from FEMA (that process was also defunded) and we had a group of FEMA staffers assisting us in preparing the BRIC grant application.
